Okay now that you have an idea of some of the products you might want to source, I am going to ask you to do something hard. I need you to not be married to that particular product. I know when we did the brainstorming you might have found some products you are really excited about. You might not start out getting that particular account.
Instead, you are going to use that product to find similar products, some that you might have never heard of before. You can still call those leads you are most excited about- but don’t get so fixated on them you miss out on all the other great leads that could come from that one product you brainstormed.
I am going to give you three ways to find a trade show that might have similar products to what you are looking for:
1. Use our list of trade shows (Academy Members Only/Login Required)- If you are an Unstoppable Amazon Academy member, we have a list of over 200 shows all over the county. Look at that list and find a show that you think might carry the products you listed in the brainstorming worksheet.
2. Google For Trade Shows
a. By category (i.e. Apparel Trade Show, Toy Trade Show)
b. By Brand Name- Enter some of the brands for the products you listed in the Brainstorming Worksheet and the word “booth”. (i.e Southwest Specialties Booth)
3. By Phone- Call the Companies that you brainstormed and say “I ran across your product and I would be interested in seeing it before purchasing wholesale, can you tell me what trade shows you will be attending this year?”
Using one of the techniques above select 2 trade shows that either allow you to see their floor plan or exhibitors list without registering or that you could register for easily. Some shows are friendlier towards online sellers than others.
Right now, you want an easy win. If one requires something you don’t have or requires manual approval, skip that one for now. You can always come back to that trade show later. We are looking for easy wins at this point.
Remember- we want to make sure that we are looking for a show that has products we can sell on Amazon. So stick to categories that won’t require you to get category approval (like beauty orjewelry).
Keep trying similar trade shows until you have at least 2 lists of Vendors. Tomorrow we will go through how to determine which of these vendors you should call and/or email.
